2 Kings 4:2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”

At my previous job, I had a tough Director who assigned me stretch projects that felt unattainable. I thought he was setting me up to fail, so I requested a meeting to express my frustrations. I asked him why he was punishing me when my coworkers weren’t given similar projects. He questioned my view of punishment and asked if I completed the projects on time. I said yes, and he responded that’s precisely why he trusted me with them. He noted that I only saw a small fragment of my potential. He said, “Eunice, You Don’t Know What You Have!”

Our focal text shares the story of a widow who did not know the value of what was in her house. When the prophet asked what she had, she replied, Nothing except a small jar of olive oil. She did not know the value of the oil.

Joanna Beck boldly asserts in her book The Anointing Blueprint: Unlocking the Power of Oil in Every Area of Your Life that this generation has watered down the potency of the anointing by adding fabric softener to oil.

Ancient Christians did not use the oil casually but intentionally. They used the oil to anoint for healing, deliverance, protection, consecration, and commissioning. Unfortunately, this generation uses oil for ritual, not revelation. The oil must be applied and activated.

Mark 9:28 illustrates the disciples’ ineffectiveness in casting out demons because they handled the oil as if it were a potion and did not realize it was a portal.

This June, as the oil prepares to flow into your life, you will actively drive out demonic principalities. You have allowed too many demons to park in your house. They are burning rubber against your mental health, breaking the speed limit to cut off your child’s potential, and trying to reverse the direction of your assignment. The oil of God that is flowing today is going to put demons and generational ancient demons on the run. The oil will evict every evil spirit and pull down every principality. The oil has authority.

We will operate in this authority by the anointing of oil. The anointing seals your purpose, position, and placement.
