Evangelism Ministry Member Highlight – Nychelle Walcott, Evangelist-Sister
Apr 23, 2025
What made me say “yes” to joining the Evangelism Team at New Birth was the warm, friendly, and easy learning environment that embraced me just as I am. From the beginning, I felt accepted and supported, making it easy to grow spiritually and personally. Being part of this team has enhanced my passion for ministry and giving back to others and deepened my understanding of the Word of God. The experience has strengthened my relationship with Christ and ignited a desire in me to pursue ministry and become a minister in the near future. I’m grateful for the love, leadership, and learning that the Evangelism Team continues to pour into me. It’s truly been life-changing.
Weeks ago, I was shopping for a catering event at BJ’s grocery store. As I stood there unsure of what to charge for the walking taco bags I planned to sell, I whispered a quick prayer: “God, what should I do?” Just then, I saw two women and a young boy coming down my aisle. I approached the younger woman and asked for her thoughts on the price. Although she seemed bothered initially, I stayed kind, and she eventually shared her opinion. We ended up agreeing on a fair price.
As we kept talking, she told me she also loved to cook. She seemed heavy with something, so I offered her prayer, which opened the door. She shared that she had lost everything. I told her my testimony of when I first joined New Birth—how my own housing situation and finances were broken. I shared the importance of tithing, trusting God, and keeping your hand in His unchanging hand. I told her if she remained diligent, God would honor her faith.
Since then, I’ve stayed in touch—praying, encouraging, and inviting her to church.
Well, look at God…
While out with the Evangelism Ministry on the evening of April 14, 2025, at an apartment complex in Lithonia, GA, a car drove by, and someone called my name. It was her. She smiled and said, “What are you doing in this neighborhood? I live here.” I told her, “I am evangelizing winning souls for Christ.” She stated, “Wow, you do love God’s people. This is how I met you—the same way!”
That moment confirmed everything—not just to her, but to me. It reminded me that people are always watching and how I represent God matters. She could have seen me doing anything, but because of my yes to God, my obedience to the evangelism ministry, and the guidance of Dr. Jamal Bryant and Pastor Carla Stokes, I was right where I needed to be—to win a soul for Christ.
She and her family joined us at church for Resurrection Sunday.
LOOK AT GOD!
This testimony is not only a confirmation of God’s faithfulness—it’s a call to keep serving with my whole heart. I am honored to serve in the Evangelism Ministry and to be a vessel for God’s love and light in this world. This is more than ministry—it’s purpose.
The Evangelism Ministry is essential to the heart and mission of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, where Dr. Jamal Harrison Bryant serves as our Senior Pastor, alongside First Lady Dr. Karri Bryant, Dr. Carla Stokes, and our incredible team of pastors and ministry leaders. While our leadership team is passionate and powerful, they cannot physically reach everyone—which is why evangelism is not just a ministry, but a mandate.
We are a large and growing ministry with a mission focusing on spiritual growth, social justice, and community service. As Evangelism Ministers, it is our responsibility and privilege to help fill the empty seats in the balcony by reaching out to those who might never make it inside the Sanctuary without a personal touch.
People want to be seen, heard and loved—not judged or ridiculed. Evangelism is how we meet people where they are, share our authentic stories, and let them know that they are not alone and can make it, too, in Jesus’ name. By being transparent about our own journeys, we offer hope and healing that can only be found through Christ.
This ministry is about more than passing out flyers or inviting people to church—it’s about helping them encounter God’s grace through real people who care. We are frontline workers in the Kingdom, and our role is vital to the spiritual health and growth of this church and our community.
Evangelism breathes life into the mission of New Birth and expands the reach of our church beyond the four walls. Together, we are committed to winning souls for Christ, one encounter at a time.
