If the Disciples Threw a BBQ
Jul 17, 2025

As we pause for Sabbath this July, let’s take a moment to reflect together in a lighthearted and fun moment.
Can you imagine being invited to a cookout thrown by Jesus and his disciples? We can all name several things that make a gathering complete, but faith and fellowship are flavorful ingredients to any gathering. As believers in Christ, it’s a priority to stay in His presence, and it’s not always an easy task, but it’s well worth it.
We must carry the light, love, and peace of God everywhere we go, whether it’s a casual or formal gathering. Do people encounter the love of God when they encounter you? Are you checking your fruits daily? Keeping these things as our life’s priorities is critical, and this is what sets us apart from the world, which is pleasing to the Lord.
Back to the cookout! Everyone is responsible for bringing something to make this gathering one for the books. Peter is bringing the fish, of course. Luke has the sunscreen. John set the playlist to reflect love and harmony. Martha is setting the table. Thomas is bringing ribs and doesn’t believe they’ll fall off the bone, but time will tell. Jesus is bringing cases of water (holy), and I know it’ll be turned into fresh lemonade.
Acts 2:46-47 — “They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts”
The sun is shining, praise music is flowing. Someone started to shout during the blessing of the food. Children were playing, and adults were testifying, real kingdom vibes! We laughed, we ate, we fellowshipped, and this is what the early church was all about.
This summer, we may be on Sabbatical, but God is always present. He is present in our ‘Rest and Sabbath Series’ (hosted by First Lady, Dr. Karri Bryant), on vacations, at every cookout, in conversations, and in joyful moments under the sun.
Stay cool, stay grateful, and remember the best part of the summer is the Son.
